I woke up early yesterday morning (July 14, 2021). As has been my habit for months one of the first things I did was check the previous day’s 14 day rolling average of new COVID-19 infections in the United States. The percentage increase was shocking but unfortunately not surprising. The clock has hardly stuck 8am as I begin to pen this.

The number of new cases was 25,661. Considering that some past raw numbers were nearly ten times that amount it isn’t all that bad. However, the percentage increase was 109% which tells me we are going in the wrong direction and rapidly. I’ve been following this metric for some time and have been charting it starting with the numbers for November 10, 2020. This is the first time the increase has been in triple digits. In fact, the previous percentage high was 82% on November 16, 2020. Of the various stats that are readily available I find the 14 day rolling average to be the best predictor of the future.

The increases are mainly concentrated in several hotspots. Those areas also have the lowest vaccination rates in the country. Only a fool would believe that is coincidence and not causation. With extremely rare exception only a fool would refuse to be vaccinated. If we did a Venn diagram of those fools there would be almost a total overlap.

There are three COVID-19 vaccines approved for emergency use in America; Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer. Recently it was revealed that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been linked to Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Let’s put this in perspective. Over 13 million does of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have been administered in the United States. 95 cases of Guillain-Barre have been reported and one resulted in a death. Over 607,000 Americans have died of the COVID-19 and that number is demonstrably underreported. That is significantly more than 95 in 13 million let alone 1 in 13 million. It time to cut the malarkey and get vaccinated if you haven’t already!

I have never worn the uniform of the military but my impression was that if you did you followed orders. As of this writing vaccination is voluntary in the military. That does not make sense on several levels. We need the military to be ready to deploy on short notice. How can sick troops deploy? That makes troops not being vaccinated a national security issue. We can order troops to storm a fortified enemy position in what for many, perhaps most, is a suicide mission but we cannot order them to get vaccinated since final approval hasn’t been granted to the vaccines. On what planet does that make sense?

Final approval also seems to be a roadblock in other situations. It is time to grant final approval and mandate vaccinations. Again, this is a matter of both life and death and national security.

The vaccines available in this country are highly effective, safe, easily available for almost all and free. If you are not getting vaccinated you are the problem and a danger to society. This is serious; deadly serious!
