The Last Time

The Obama administration is heading into its last laps and at my age so am I. One consolidation is that I have a longer life expectancy than noon of next January 20th. One of the really neat things about Barack Obama being President is that he and my wife share a birthday. (It was hers first but we need not mention by how much.)

The chances of another President in my lifetime being born on August 4th are rather slim so this will most likely be the last time I will have a dual celebration.

Obviously I chose to marry my wife. Interestingly I had a small part in choosing Barack Obama as my President. I voted for him in both 2008 and 2012. I also had the privilege of working for him during the 2012 campaign. Both my wife and I volunteered for him via the Hernando County (FL) Democratic Party in 2008. That was the first time she ever volunteered for a candidate. Needless to say she also voted for him in 2008 and 2012. In full disclosure we both voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Florida primary. Truth be told, we viewed both favorably so the switch was quick, easy and seamless when Obama won the primary.

Cathleen has proven to be a wonderful wife who I almost always agree with. I can give a similar evaluation to Barack Obama 7 ½ years into his Presidency. Not perfect – in fact I have broken with him on a very few issues – but damn good!

I’m not sure how good the next President will be, but I’m expecting her name to be Hillary. Fortunately my wife isn’t term limited and I’m planning on keeping her around!

Not a lot of hard issues today. It feels good to write a nice piece once in a while; just wish I had more material like those two!

Now where did I hide Cathleen’s present anyway?
