Things That Go Bump In DC

In a week that contained a lot of big political news the biggest story of last week was the reaction to the Las Vegas shootings. Most of us (including Speaker Paul Ryan) learned of a new gun gizmo called the bump stock. Effectively this inexpensive and easily obtainable attachment allows many semi-automatic rifles to fire like an automatic (think: machine gun). Let’s explore. Living In A Faster America

I’m well into my sixth decade of life in America. Unlike some of my contemporaries I don’t long for the good old days because I realize they weren’t really all that good. I like things like better air to breath, better water to drink, the ability to live life free from the fear of many diseases and a plethora of modern conveniences (like the device you are reading this article on). Simply put America is a great country! In the old days when we saw something that surprised us we would usually sum up the experience with words along the lines of: If you live long enough you will see everything. I remember Nixon resigning from the presidency under impending House impeachment and Senate conviction and thought it was a once in a lifetime experience. Today’s posting is inspired by and its title is a takeoff on REM’s 1987 hit entitled: It’s the End of the World As We Know It. That line is both the song’s title and the oft repeated refrain. By changing the tense of one word is it perfectly sums up what damage Donald Trump has done to America’s global image in a succinct phrase. Let’s explore.
