The Endorsement Of Kyrsten Sinema
Tuesday night Arizona released its primary results and they should produce one of the most interesting and pivotal Senate races of 2018. Republican Jeff Flake’s retirement created an open seat in a state that while still red is certainly trending blue. Both parties selected their most electable candidate and both are women in what is looking like a year of the woman. Both are currently serving in the House. This should be a horse race where the Republicans are defending a seat that is one of three best pick-up opportunities for the Democrats who need to flip a net of two in order to take control of the upper chamber of Congress. In researching Democrat Kyrsten Sinema I found, as expected, a somewhat left-leaning moderate. To my surprise I discovered a much more interesting than anticipated candidate from the personal profile standpoint. In fact she may be the prototype Democratic candidate if they want to win in places they haven’t had historical success and appeal to the increasing pool of voters who reject party labels. The Senate races garnering the most attention (including mine) going into Election Day are the closely contested ones. The Democrats have to net two in order to take back the chamber which considering the numbers and states will be difficult. An Aspect In Need Of Exposure
Amid all the open hearings with public comment that I missed, (I must have been preoccupied with spending my money on booze, women and movies), Congress is poised to reconcile the House and Senate versions of the Trump Tower Tax Cut. There are a plethora of outrageous and injurious aspects that may well make it to the final version, among them is eliminating the mandate to carry health insurance. It is difficult to make the call but I’ll go out on a limb and say the American Health Care Act (ACHA) was the biggest American political story of last week. I like pinning the tail on the donkey and we all know a synonym for donkey that starts with the letter “A” is very appropriate when you consider the most popular nickname for the bill is Trumpcare.
