On June 30th the House authorized a Select Committee to investigate the events and causes of January 6th. That was almost six months after the event which threatened the lives of the then Vice President, Mike Pence, along with every member of Congress. Oh, and by the way American democracy. The vote was 222-190-19. Today I want to initially focus on the 19.

I’m writing this piece on Friday afternoon, officially the first observation of Juneteenth as a federal holiday. After decades of waiting, it came in as a rush job. Juneteenth becoming a federal holiday is a wonderful thing but what concerns me much more are many of the events happening around it.
It is my usual Sunday practice to write about what I felt was the biggest political story of the week just ended. As of this early writing (Thursday) I feel the biggest story is one that has been developing and will continue to develop. It was still impossible to identify the biggest outrage of the week in American politics last week. As there was no clear line in history between the Dark Ages and The Renaissance it has become apparent there will be no clear demarcation between America’s Dark Age (a/k/a the Trump era) and the American Renaissance.
