A Prudent Use Of Time And A Few Other Things

Take Trump And The Points

I watched close to none of Tuesday’s Senate impeachment trial. I had better things to do. I view the trial like betting on a football game with a huge point spread. Trump will “lose on the field” yet be a winner for the gamblers. It will take 67 votes to convict. I do not see that happening. Last week the Senate voted on whether the impeachment was constitutional – the result was 55-45 that it was. Tuesday they took the same vote after according to even the right wing reports Trump’s lawyers basically vomited on their shoes. The result was almost the same at 56-44. When all is said and done the majority of Senators will vote guilty but that number will not reach the required two-thirds for conviction. Four Head Scratchers

As a legislator you are occasionally faced with difficult votes. Was This A Tough Vote?

Last Thursday the House passed H. Res. 183 by a vote of 407-23-1-1. The resolution condemned hate speech and intolerance. I think that this was a no-brainer to vote for and it should have passed unanimously. Evidentially for two dozen Republicans this was complicated. Let’s explore.         Continue reading Was This A Tough Vote?

Deplorable Congressional Action

Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” line was one of her least well received of the 2016 election. I thought it was in large part accurate. I cannot think of a more appropriate word to use when describing the actions of 107 Congressional Republicans last week. I feel so strongly about this that at the risk of having a somewhat boring and cumbersome to read article I am naming each one of them herein. As Justice Louis Brandeis famously stated, “Sunshine is said to be the best of disinfectants.” Let’s explore.   Continue reading Deplorable Congressional Action
