Thank You Ms. Mayer

Please Note: The basis for this article is Jane Mayer’s October 4th article in The New Yorker which I highly recommend you read.

It is only about once a year that I read an article that moves me to the extent that I write almost an entire article of my own based on it. That happened the other day when I read Jane Mayer’s piece in The New Yorker entitled, The Invention Of The Conspiracy Theory On Biden And Ukraine: How a conservative dark-money group that targeted Hillary Clinton in 2016 spread the discredited story that may lead to Donald Trump’s impeachment. Trump and his minions are trying to muddy the waters with this story in order to confuse the voters. To date they have been to a large degree successful. Mayer, who I I have long held tremendous respect for, does a great job of clearing the waters in her article. Let’s explore. Continue reading Thank You Ms. Mayer

Trump Had His Best Week In Office (And It Was Still Terrible)

Last week was Donald Trump’s best as President. Don’t think I have lost it or if you are a Trump supporter who accidentally stumbled upon this site that I’m cheerleading for him. Please allow me to explain. Continue reading Trump Had His Best Week In Office (And It Was Still Terrible)

A Plethora Of Material

I readily admit that I can’t keep up with the volume of political news. Unfortunately the vast majority of it is negative. At the beginning of 2017 I reduced the number of my weekly op-eds on this site from seven to five but that doesn’t change the fact that seven also would have been insufficient. Today I’ll do a little “mop up” operation and briefly touch on a few occurrences otherwise left neglected. Let’s explore. Continue reading A Plethora Of Material

A MAD Week Starts 2018?

I remember the duck and cover under a desk drills in school in preparation for a nuclear attack by the Soviet Union. That would have done about as much good as a Betsy DeVos led Department of Education. Out of that era came an international relations theory known by the acronym of MAD which stood for Mutually Assured Destruction. Decades later came a television series named Mad Men. That “mad” stood for Manhattan’s Madison Avenue which was the epicenter of the powerful advertising business in the 1960’s. Last week we may have seen a 2018 version of mad men (as in insane) and they may be engaged in mutually assured destruction only unlike various American Presidents and Soviet Premiers they may not be smart enough to avoid the mutual destruction. Let’s explore. Continue reading A MAD Week Starts 2018?

Maybe Trump Was Telling The Truth

I have mocked the MAGA (make America great again) theme of the 2016 Trump campaign as unpatriotic and a flat out lie. America is a great nation. In my opinion it is the greatest nation in the history of the planet. Not perfect; but sum and total by far the best. I feel fortunate to have been born an American and to have lived my life here. A scary thought struck me the other day: what if Trump was telling the truth all this time and his idea of greatness was radically disconnected from reality? Let’s explore. Continue reading Maybe Trump Was Telling The Truth
