I plan on taking a few days off from my version of live blogging so this is a perfect opportunity to get some last points in.
Let’s look at America as we end the month of June of a presidential year with the incumbent president running for reelection. We are in a depression with unemployment at a rate we haven’t seen in decades. We are suffering from a pandemic the likes of which we haven’t seen in a century and are turning in the worst performance by far of any other advanced industrialized western nation due to lack of federal leadership. The rule of law, including in many instances the actions of front line of law enforcement, is erratic at best. People from both sides of the political spectrum have been taking to the street to demonstrate. All that considered an incumbent president should be a dead duck in November but there is actually a decent chance that Trump will “win reelection”. My basic question today is with this backdrop what exactly is Trump planning for? There is a lot there including my use of quotation marks. Let’s explore. I doubt anyone in my true target audience for today (the 53 Republican senators) will read this article. However it is my analysis of exactly what is going on at the moment. The event that dominated the political news last week and will continue to for at least this week is the impeachment trial of Donald Trump. The main reason it is coming into this week is the endeavor to please Trump. That is coupled with a hunger for TV time. I suspect, and time will tell, that it also may include the fact that Midnight Mitch McConnell is much smarter than Trump. That is an indisputable fact; I just don’t know if it is a factor yet. The following is not a comment on a real program. It is simply me taking a lot of President Trump’s actions and motivations to creating a fantasy – one that isn’t all that farfetched.
I came up with a list of 47 people associated with Trump who are certainly candidates for federal prison. Some have already served their time or are currently serving time; several are awaiting sentencing and still more are currently under indictment. I’m certain I missed some candidates and there are still more who I am simply not aware of at this writing.
