Progressive Sweeping I

Finding a title for my cleanup articles is often one of the most difficult things I do. Today I think I finally stumbled on a both good and accurate one. Typical of a progressive, I want to “sweep” issues before the eyes of the public. The other side tends to sweep their sins under the rug and out of the sight of all but the most well informed. While it may be incomplete, it is “good sweeping” (yes, the inspiration for that phrase comes from the late John Lewis), expect to see that title used again and often. Normally funerals/memorial services are boring events. That was certainly not the case Thursday at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta when President Obama took to the pulpit to eulogize John Lewis. While its immediate impact is nil; it was far and away the most important thing that happened in American politics last week yet it will go largely unnoticed in the short run. Let’s explore. Amongst The Distractions

The news last week was dominated by the Trump administration’s handling of the refugee crisis on our southern border, Trump bragging about how great he is (his big example was what he considers to be his great achievement with Kim Jung-un) and Melania’s jacket. In short, Trump created the crisis, he got his behind handed to him in Singapore and I really don’t care what the First Lady wears because she is largely irrelevant.
