The Democrats’ Hot Stove League

Maybe I’m just too caught up in baseball’s off season moves, but I can’t help but think of “the bench”. Today I’d like to briefly look at the Democrat’s “national bench”. I’m among the people who thinks the Democrats need a youth movement, therefore I’m just looking at people who will be at least 35 (the Constitutional minimum age for president) but less than 60 on Election Day 2024.
What If It’s Scorched Earth?
I often think I learned more during the fifteen seasons I coached high school or college basketball than from my formal education. In coaching one of the keys to victory is to ascertain your opponent’s strategy. You assumed their goal was to win. Those lessons are applicable to politics and elections. What if your opponent is an incumbent who has decided they cannot win and therefore their goal is to destroy as much as possible on their way out the door? I’ve lost count but America is in about its fifth week of protests. It started out as a right wing thing, with the police killing of George Floyd evolved into a left wing thing and then the right wing, not to be outdone, started showing up in armed counter protests.
