Call most modern American women “girls” and you are understandably in trouble. The exception to that rule is if the word “girls” is proceeded by the word “California”. Today I’d like to talk about a couple of California girls – one actually from Massachusetts via Oklahoma – and a California boy. (Hey, I’ve got to be consistent. There is a generational aspect to this verbiage: My baby boomer wife has lunch with the ladies; my greatest generation mother got together with the girls.)

Today is the Georgia Senate runoff election so almost every political junkie will be talking about the Senate. I’m going to do it too but with a different twist. I want to take my first look at the 2024 Senate races as they stand at the moment. I think that when all the dust settles in the Peach State Raphael Warnock will be returned to the Senate and the Democrats will control the chamber 51-49. One of my pet peeves is hearing people display their political ignorance when they say things along the lines of all politicians and both political parties are the same. In America there is a universe of difference between Democrats and Republicans. One group cares more about the country than their personal political fortune. The other is 180 degrees opposite. I’ll illustrate it below.
Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren is one of my favorite senators. She often expresses my true desires better than almost anyone in elected office. Feasibility, at least at the moment, is often another matter. Today is one of those cases.
In sports to a large degree a coach is only as good as their players. Politics is similar. Joe Biden is the new “coach” and he has assembled some great talent around him. His Treasury Secretary is Janet Yellen. While the former guy had a Wall Street C-lister with a trophy wife at Treasury; Biden has one of the world’s best economists.
