He Told Us

Tuesday Bill Barr testified before the House Judiciary Committee. I watched significant portions of the hearing live. Basically Barr lied, told right wing mythology tales (the latter is a subset of the former) and ran out the clock. A lot of progressives are angry; they have a right to be but they certainly shouldn’t be surprised. Let’s explore. Continue reading He Told Us

The Current Snapshot

Things change in American politics in a matter of hours. At this point the Democratic presidential primary race is no exception. I hope you read this article soon after it is published because if you wait very long it will be a history lesson not a snapshot in time. Let’s explore. Continue reading The Current Snapshot

Republicans Save Yourselves

I doubt anyone in my true target audience for today (the 53 Republican senators) will read this article. However it is my analysis of exactly what is going on at the moment. The event that dominated the political news last week and will continue to for at least this week is the impeachment trial of Donald Trump. SPECIAL NOTICE – RECOMMENED READING ADDITION

I just added Ronan Farrow’s Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators to the Recommended Reading List.

Perhaps the most important book of the #me too era, but it is so more!

It is a work of non-fiction but in many parts reads like a thriller.  That is a tribute to Farrow’s writing ability.  Even that compliment sells the book short.

It is a classic tale of boys behaving badly and the expensive coverups that followed.

Bought Bipartisan

I face two problems with today’s article: controlling my rage and keeping it brief enough. On Sunday October 15th The Washington Post published Scott Higham and Lenny Bernstein’s article The Opioid Epidemic: How Congress and the drug companies worked to neutralize the DEA. Later that evening the two lead segments of CBS’s 60 Minutes were dedicated to the same topic. The two news organizations had collaborated on the pieces. Let’s explore.   Continue reading Bought Bipartisan
