Late last week a deal brokered by the UN and Turkey between Ukraine and Russia to transport wheat was announced. That is a big deal. In advanced countries like the United States, it would help bring down food prices and in the process inflation. In the world’s poorest countries it would make the difference between starvation and life. Serious stuff!

Like a lot of other liberals I spent a good part of 2017 reading books in an effort to understand how Trump won. Why would anyone from the Rust Belt or Appalachia vote for him when he was such an obvious fraud who was going to do nothing for the white workers who were left behind in this new industrial revolution? The other day I was reading about how Franklin Delano Roosevelt thought about how Abraham Lincoln would handle a situation when deciding what to do.
