Only Somewhat Out Of Sight

Some years ago, Hillary Clinton was ridiculed when she said there was a vast right wing conspiracy. Today she is proven to be substantially correct. There is a vast far right wing conspiracy, including in America, and it is pretty much hiding in plain sight.

Your Retribution Opportunity

I have to begin this piece with a word of credit and thanks to Steve Brodner who, in his opinion piece of January 2, 2024 in the Washington Post entitled, These politicians denied democracy on Jan. 6. Now they want your vote., did much of my research work. As of this writing there are 147 Republicans who voted not to certify the electoral college results of the 2020 election despite overwhelming evidence to the back up said results and even after they were attacked by domestic terrorists earlier in the day on January 6, 2021. Several have been implicated in complicity in the planning and/or execution of the illegal events of that day. By virtue of this vote, all 147 of them are in my opinion and that of many, many others, at minimum, accessories after the fact.

Questions Of Motivation

Republican Representative George Santos of New York was expelled from the House of Representatives on Friday of last week. The vote was 311-114-2-8. This was the third attempt at expulsion, (keep in mind that Santos didn’t take his seat until January of this year). Then I’d like to explore the motivation for some of the votes. (Even a political junkie like me isn’t comfortable ascribing motivations to many of the back benchers.) Totally perplexing to me are the two Democrats who voted “Present”.

Wow. What A Week!

Time stamp: Saturday morning

Traditionally the subject of my Sunday article is the biggest political story of the week just ended. Last week was jam packed and a time stamp was necessary because some of the events are dynamic. The chaos of the Bare Naked Ladies’ hit , One Week, is going through my mind. I’ll never achieve the level of their lyrics, a generation will not memorize my words, but hold on, here we go.

The Anti Democracy Party

On September 21, 2022 the House voted on the Presidential Election Reform Act. Basically, it plugs many of the loopholes that Donald Trump tried to exploit to overturn the free and fair election he lost in 2020. The vote was 229 in favor, 203 opposed and one not voting. Nine Republicans joined all 220 Democrats who voted in voting for the resolution. The nine Republicans who also voted for democracy are all leaving Congress at the end of this term. All 203 of the other Republicans (most of whom are on the 2022 ballot) voted against the resolution and in the process American democracy.
