Perhaps America’s Clearest 24 Hours

It is late Friday morning as I commence to pen this. That is important in both relation to the title and the fact that some of the subjects of my comments are dynamic in nature. If you want to display your ignorance of contemporary American politics all you have to do is say something along the line of all politicians are the same. That is uttered everyday and is a major reason America often finds itself on the wrong track. The events of the last 24 hours are a crystal-clear illustration of that!

52 To Discard

Last week was another where it is difficult to pick the biggest American political story of the week; on the surface that is. In reality the fact that one political party with two allies from the other side decided that American democracy wasn’t important is difficult to top. All 50 Republican senators with the addition of Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona refused to amend the filibuster rule to enable voting rights – the cornerstone of democracy – to get an up or down vote.

Sunday – Part I

The forces of evil had perhaps their best week in Washington since January 6th. Most often I choose the biggest political story of the week just ended as the subject of my Sunday article. This week I have a three-way tie and therefore it will be Sunday on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday this week. I will cover them in the order they occurred. Today’s subject will be a vote in the Senate.

How To Handle An Abusive Relationship

American democracy finds itself in an abusive (and adversarial) relationship with the Republican Party. That is a monumental problem. The first step in solving a problem is to realize that it exists. I spent ten years on the Board of an organization that helped people deal with abusive relationships. The key to solving that issue is also straight forward.
