North Carolina has a lot of political problems. One of them is its Congressional delegation. In my case I am currently “represented” in the Senate by Richard Burr and Thom Tillis; in the House by “Sleeping” (and thankfully retiring) George Holding. The good news (in addition to having been moved into David Price’s district for the next Congress) is that Tillis’ seat is up in 2020. With all that and much more in mind please continue as I explain why today tellthetruthonthem.com is endorsing Cal Cunningham for the United States Senate from North Carolina. This is the first of what will be several 2018 endorsements. Often in races a true progressive will not present themselves; it appears the 2018 U.S. Senate race in Florida will be one of those races. Monday, via Twitter, term limited Florida Governor Rick “The Fifth” Scott to nobody’s surprise announced he would seek the Republican nomination to challenge incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson. While Nelson is not a pure progressive I want to make it clear that this endorsement is of the vastly superior candidate and far from a lesser of two evils situation! There is a school of thought in business that all publicity is good as long as they spell your name correctly. While most commonly subscribed to by strip club and porn shop operators, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is obviously a subscriber to that theory. The difference is one of integrity. People in the adult entertainment industry are at least honest about what they are doing – Donald Trump, well. Continue reading Was It Good?
It has been said that timing is everything in life; well timing certainly played a part in today’s article. When I think of World War II – which I consider the most significant event of the 20th century – the day that comes to my mind is June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day. For most Americans it is December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor Day. I prefer to remember the day that spelled the beginning of the end for the Axis powers to the day that caused America’s entry into the war. Monday New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg died. He was the last veteran of World War II still serving in the Senate. Therefore, for the first time in my lifetime no veteran of the war won by America’s greatest generation is in the Senate on the anniversary of D-Day. That is but a small part of the Lautenberg legacy for which today we enshrine him in the Progressive Hall of Fame. Frank Lautenberg lived the American dream, facilitated by one of the great progressive programs of the 20th century while never forgetting where he came from and spending much of his life giving back to the country he served and loved. While endorsements on this site are not akin to wagers on victory but strictly an endorsement of what is clearly the best candidate, I think today’s subject has a very good chance of winning. Her candidacy is both good for America and her political career. She has already served her country with distinction in the military and in Congress. This is the second time tellthetruthonthem.com has had the privilege of endorsing Tammy Duckworth for public office. Continue reading The Endorsement Of Tammy Duckworth
