Voter Beware

Caveat emptor: that is one of the few, perhaps the only, Latin phrase I know. It means buyer beware. I learned that in the late sixties in a high school Business law course. Come to think of it, that is one of the few things I still consider valuable from high school. Perhaps that is one of the reasons I was my high school’s first three year graduate – I found high school to be mostly a waste of my time. Enough of my personal rant; let’s tie this into politics. Hard Starboard!

Predicting what Donald Trump will do or what its effect will be has proven to be the most dangerous thing anyone can do in this cycle. All that said I’m going out on a limb. With the most recent staffing moves in the Trump campaign I’m predicting it will be hard right to the finish. While I won’t completely rule it out, I think it is less likely than ever that Trump will drop out before November. I think he will finish the race and lose in an Electoral College landslide that will set the Republican Party even further back as a national Party. Continue reading Hard Starboard!

Rated R – The Enterprises And Associates Of Art Pope

The poster boy for the reverse Robin Hood role is North Carolina billionaire Art Pope. Pope’s inherited business empire operates under the umbrella of Variety Wholesalers. Variety is privately held and therefore it is difficult to get exact numbers, but they do business under ten different names. They are in retail and there are two guiding principles they utilize when determining where to locate a store. They look for a neighborhood with a median income of under $40,000 and a population that is at least 25% African-American.
