When I talk to young people I tell them if by the time they are forty years old when they look in the mirror if they don’t see their best teacher they did something wrong. I’m not going to sell math short and I agree with the emphasis put on STEM but reading is far and away the most important academic skill. SPECIAL NOTICE: RECOMMENED READING ADDITION
I just added A World In Disarray by Richard Haass to the Recommended Reading Section. Dr. Haass is a bit right of center but this book proves liberals can learn from conservatives (and I certainly believe vice versa). He mainly deals in his area of expertise: foreign policy. There are lessons to be learned from this work and I agree with most of his geopolitical observations and analysis.
When he ventures into domestic policy our thinking parts ways as would be expected since we are of different political philosophies. In his deserved defense, Haass is not afraid to criticize Presidents of either Party.
