Random But Relevant

Today’s article is another of the catch-up variety. I hope you find one or more thought provoking tidbits below.

High Expectations

The word is that Donald Trump has been telling people that he expects to be back in office by August at the latest. Is August the new two weeks or does Trump know of some extraconstitutional activity that he feels will be successful this time as opposed to 1/6?

The My Pillow Guy is running around telling people that he has evidence which will cause the Supreme Court to reinstate Trump when he presents it to them in August. Why the delay? And here is an inconvenient fact: the Court is not in session in August and most if not all of the justices will be scatter about the globe.

In The Listings

For the second time Trump is trying to sell his lease on the Old Post office Building in DC which is currently the site of his hotel. Hotel business is way down and the Trump brand is poison to a large portion of the public. Owning a hotel down the street from the White House is a perfect scam for a sitting president trying to extort money. If you thought you were going to be back in office shortly, why would you dump it? Could it be that the cash poor (and possibly close to broke) Trump is trying to accumulate some cash to pay anticipated legal bills? Does the fact that no Russian mystery man or entity is rushing in to purchase the lease indicate that Putin no longer considers Trump useful?

Thoughts Spurred By A Quote

I watched part of Joe Biden’s speech in Tulsa on Tuesday. One line stuck out to me, “Hate’s never defeated, it just hides.” Wow, did that dovetail with some of my recent reading and GOP efforts, particularly at the state level. Right wing mythology is the engine that perpetuates hate from one generation to the next. Truth is its biggest enemy. That is why right wingers are working so hard to prevent the facts from being taught in schools. Yes, it puts America in a bad light sometimes. I truly believe we are the greatest nation in the history of the planet; but we are far from perfect. Today’s hate is largely born of ignorance and the right wing is trying to perpetuate it.

Willful And Deliberate Ignorance

18 GOP Senators that I know of refused to meet with the late Brian Sicknick’s mother prior to the vote on the independent commission to investigate 1/6. 12 voted against the commission and 6 simply chose not to show up for work. Could it be that they didn’t want to be “distracted” by the facts? The 18 are: Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Richard Burr of North Carolina, James Risch of Idaho, Roy Blunt of Missouri, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Cindy Hyde-Smith and Roger Wicker of Mississippi, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Jerry Moran of Kansas, John Boozman and Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Deb Fischer of Nebraska, James Inhofe of Oklahoma, John Kennedy of Louisiana, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Rounds of South Dakota.

Blunt, Burr, Capito, Hagerty, Risch and Tuberville all gave some variation of being too busy as their reason for not meeting; the other 12 simply gave no reply to press inquiries and in some cases none to Mrs. Sicknick. Remember her son died saving their lives.

America Has A Gun Problem!

Before May ended America already had over 400 mass shootings in 2021. Think about that for a moment. Is it any wonder that most of them can’t get much other than local coverage? Yet one political party (guess which one) continues to work hard at the state level to loosen gun regulations. Following that “logic” we should replace the water lines leading to fire hydrants with kerosene lines.

I could write much more today but I’m disgusted and by now you are probably too.
