Well, here is “part two”. I’m sure there will still be plenty left on the cutting room floor.
Not What You Wanted, Vlad
On April 4th Finland became a full NATO member basically doubling NATO’s border with Russia. Sweden appears to be very soon to follow. How’s that Ukraine/intimidation thing working for you Mr. Putin?
Wisconsin, Larger Than You At First Think!
With the election of Janet Protasiewicz to the Wisconsin Supreme Court a woman’s right to choose appears to be safe in the Badger State but it is much bigger! Wisconsin, which is one of, if not, the most gerrymandered state; is actually almost evenly divided at the polls. You can’t gerrymander a state so Joe Biden has a good shot at again carrying Wisconsin and it 10 electoral votes in 2024 assuming a free and fair election.
In 2020 the Wisconsin Supreme Court came within one vote of “overturning” the vote of the people. Protasiewicz’s election may have maintained democracy in American presidential elections.
An Appendage On A Nickname
For years I’ve been calling Supreme Court Associate Justice Thomas, Clarence “Just give the money to Virginia” Thomas. In view of recent revelations, we can add the appendage, she’ll take me along anyway.
One Thing Going His Way
The news has not been good for Donald Trump on the legal front. Even I’ve lost some track of all the court cases. (My wife doesn’t let me write on the walls.) One thing is going his way – the primary. The field seems to keep getting larger. South Carolina Senator Tim Scott has announced the formation of an exploratory committee. Scott has little chance of ever reaching double digits in the GOP primary let alone winning it. The more certain losers that dilute the anyone but Trump vote; the better chance Trump has.
Until someone mentioned it earlier today, I had forgotten that Asa Hutchinson had declared the other day. I guess that shows you what I think his chances are.
Nothing Fast
Many on the left are all excited that Trump has finally been indicted. Regardless of how things play out there are still a lot of “innings left in this ballgame”. The next scheduled live court appearance in the Manhattan case for Trump is December 4th.
Consider This
I think I’m in the mainstream when I say that I feel motherhood should be a choice not something imposed by the government.
GOP Cancel Culture?
Tennessee GOP Logic?
Considering the Tennessee Republicans’ recent actions, I feel is it logical to deduce that they are defenders of (along with the Second Amendment) the First Amendment’s rights to freedom of association and speech as long as they agree with both your association and speech. Is this the Republican version of cancel culture?
Prospects Looking Up
I’m among the many who feel the Republicans have a great chance of retaking the Senate as a result of the 2024 election. The numbers are well in their favor and many of the Democratic seats are in purple or red states. I’m starting to modify my view a bit and it appears many of the incumbent Democratic senators agree. In recent days Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, Jacky Rosen of Nevada and Jon Tester of Montana all have announced they are running for reelection. That should tell you something.
A Sad Note
Virginia’s 10th congressional district Representative Jennifer Wexton announced that she is suffering from Parkinson’s disease. I have two friends who are in the same boat. The effects are sad to watch and physically devastating. However, both of them were very bright guys and their mental ability doesn’t seem in the least bit impaired. Both have advanced degrees and it still very much shows. In fact, I recently enjoyed reading a book one of them just published. I guess that’s my way of saying that she has a lot of terms left in her if the voters of her district only have an open mind. Many, if not most, members of Congress are not exactly ready for the Olympics.
A Good Fit And Another Win For A School On The Rise
With her loss in the 2022 Georgia governor’s race, I felt Stacey Abrams was just about done as far as being a viable candidate was concerned. She is a great organizer, public speaker and motivator. She can also teach a lot of others how to get things accomplished in the political arena.
It was recently announced that she is taking a position at Howard University. What a great fit and win for progressive causes! Howard is already a great school and still on the rise. In addition to Stacey, they have recently added Nikole Hannah-Jones and Ta-Nehisi Coates to their faculty. Abrams will be able to teach organizing skills to many of the best and the brightest youths that America has to offer. This is an “investment” that will pay “dividends” for decades.
Well the cutting room floor is well littered but that is enough for today.
