The current configuration of the Republican Party has nothing to offer the average American. Yet, like all other candidates, incumbent or challenger, they have to run for reelection or election every few years and in 2016 a boatload of offices are on the ballot. It’s July 4th as I write this article. I have reached the age where this day is one where I anticipate what is to come the rest of the summer. Politically I am wondering which will be the bigger circus; the Republican National Convention or the Rio Olympics. Today we celebrate the 240th anniversary of America’s independence. The holiday is formally called Independence Day but I, like most Americans, think of it as the Fourth of July. As a little boy I loved to play baseball and the Fourth of July has always been my favorite holiday because it was the one that almost always brought baseball weather with it to Western New York.
