Nothing From Nothing

The current configuration of the Republican Party has nothing to offer the average American. Yet, like all other candidates, incumbent or challenger, they have to run for reelection or election every few years and in 2016 a boatload of offices are on the ballot. Their answer has been and apparently remains to recycle hot button issues regardless of viability or validity.

What are Republicans ginning up their base with? The answers are: Benghazi, Hillary’s e-mails, Roe v Wade and Obamacare. Let’s take a look at them.

I think the running total is now around $7 million that the GOP has wasted on their quest to prove Hillary Clinton caused the tragedy at Benghazi. The only things they have accomplished are to waste a bunch of your money and make Trey Gowdy into a hero of right wing mythology.

The FBI and Justice Department have closed their investigation into former Secretary Clinton and her staff with the conclusion that no charges are warranted. The reaction from the GOP controlled Congress is to call a bunch of hearings into the investigation. I’ll tell you their net result right now. They will waste a lot of taxpayer dollars and taxpayer paid for time that should have used to work on solving the problems America faces.

Roe v Wade is a 1973 Supreme Court decision that guarantees a woman’s right to choose via her constitutional right to privacy. That was 43 years ago but the GOP is still trying to somehow overturn it. They haven’t succeeded and currently have no chance of success yet I guarantee you many Republican candidates will be campaigning on the “promise” that if elected they will overturn it. It’s been that way for over 40 years. When will they and the voters who support them wake up?

I’ve lost count but I know the Republicans in the House have voted to repeal Obamacare over 50 times. Mike Huckabee made a cottage industry out of doing the voiceover for outright deceptive commercials raising money for that cause. He must have fooled enough people because the commercials aired seemingly non-stop for a long time. Pure and simple Obamacare was never going to be repealed while Barack Obama occupied the Oval Office and the Republicans lack a two-thirds majority in both chambers of the Congress.

The Trump campaign even tried to resurrect the suicide of Vince Foster and link it to the Clintons. Foster died in July of 1993; need I say more?

The Republican Party in general and most glaringly its soon to be crowned standard bearer Donald Trump lack any policies that will help the average American. They have to rely on recycling old malarkey (thanks again Mr. Vice President) and empty (but often deceptively good) rhetoric. Scaring some voters about “those people” doesn’t hurt the GOP cause either.

I guess the Republicans find themselves in the position of having nothing to offer – mainly because they serve their financiers, not their constituents – therefore they have to cling to something. That something is recycling dead issues regardless of how many taxpayer dollars they squander in the process.
