America’s Hopeless President

The title of this article may, in fact, be a rather poor pun but I promise you it contains much more. Let’s explore.

In one of the two most impactful stories of last week (the other received very little coverage) Hope Hicks resigned as White House Communications Director. Over the last several months I first listed three people to watch whose actions will signal the beginning of the end of Donald Trump’s time in the White House. They were (in no particular order) Mitch McConnell, John McCain and Jared Kushner. In these three cases the “signaling actions” have yet to occur. (In Jared’s case they possibly could have and are not public knowledge yet; although I have no reason to believe that is the case.) Subsequently to that I added Hope Hick’s exit from the White House.

Hicks was part of Donald Trump’s – apparently difficult to enter other than by blood or marriage – inner circle. Trump acts much like a mafia Don and generally does not trust anyone outside that small circle. Hope also lacked any discernable qualifications for her position or any senior White House position for that matter. Her main “qualifications” appear to be her friendship with the equally unqualified Ivanka Trump and natural beauty. It appears that the quote attributed to Steve Bannon where he described Hicks as being, “Dumb as a stone,” is substantially accurate. She did possess a quality Trump (like most mafia Dons) value: she was very loyal. Her exit speaks volumes that it is getting too hot for many close to Trump.

President Trump has described himself as a, “Very stable genius”. I disagree with both characterizations. Last week he proved his arrogance, stupidity or both by naming Brad Parscale as his 2020 Campaign Manager. Parscale ran much of the advertising and digital operations for the 2016 campaign. He has already been interview as part of the Russiagate probe and certainly will be a key witness if not defendant before this scandal is all over.

Perhaps Miss Hicks will end as well off as Keith Schiller did. When Trump’s longtime bodyguard left his position as head of Oval Office Operations for, “Other opportunities,” they ended up being a $15,000 per month ($180,000 per year) gig as a security consultant at the Republican National Committee. Remember a sitting president effectively ends up controlling his party’s national committee at least until they are a lame duck and a new nominee is presumptive. Then again Hicks probably doesn’t have the “talent” the 6’4” Schiller displayed when he bullied the 5’8” journalist Jorge Ramos out of a press conference for the “sin” of asking Trump a hard question.

Trump is famous for the thumbs up gesture. To me this was thumbing his nose at America. I still don’t know exactly when the Trump administration will end; but if it ends disgracefully, as I assume it will the beginning of the end was on February 28, 2017.

  1. A few more “rats” off this sinking ship and the only one left on board will be “Captain Bone Spurs”.
