Please note this article has an element of fiction to it in that I neither speak for ISIS nor am in any sort of communication with them. In fact as far as I know they do not name a Man of the Year award. (It certainly wouldn’t be Person of the Year).
Men of the Year decisions have to be made well in advance of announcement and publication. I am writing this article on the morning of Pearl Harbor Day, some 20 days in advance of publication. I will probably neglect to mention some of President Trump’s “achievements” that further the cause of ISIS and very possibly some will occur between my writing and your reading of this article. That said, Trump has done more than enough to merit this recognition. Continue reading ISIS’ 2017 Man Of The Year: Donald Trump
When you write political op-eds you generally try to be rather timely. Nobody likes to read last month’s news. There are also those little tidbits that get stuck in your mind but don’t constitute enough material to build a full article around without getting excessively wordy and boring. Well the stars aligned for me and therefore today’s article is a collection of snippets that have been on my mind for a while. Let’s explore. Polarization is a huge problem in contemporary American politics. If you use a Venn diagram to illustrate the positions of the right and left in this country one of the few places the circles would overlap is the respect for veterans, particularly those who gave their life in the line of duty. I have never worn the uniform of this country and have disagreed with almost every military action my country has taken in my lifetime. That in no way diminishes my respect for veterans. The last time I checked nobody in the military writes their own orders; they go where they are told, when they are told. One of the lowest things an American can do is use the military, especially a military death in the line of duty, for their self-aggrandizement. That is exactly what Donald Trump has done on multiple occasions. Let’s explore. Continue reading My President Is A Deplorable Human Being
Baseball players and serious fans often refer to the major leagues as “The Show”. The major leagues are where the biggest rewards (fame and fortune) are as well as where the spotlight shines the brightest. Boot a grounder in Class A ball and only a few hundred people will ever know. Boot that same grounder in the major leagues and it just might end up on Sports Center and be viewed by millions (not counting live TV, radio and nationally syndicated news columns). In politics often sins go relatively unnoticed until you reach the highest levels. Many House members toil in relative obscurity. Reach the Senate and certainly the presidency and the entire world seems to monitor your every action. I don’t think Donald Trump ever realized that. Let’s explore. Continue reading In “The Show”
I am ethnically Polish. I have light skin, blue eyes, stood six foot tall in my youth and the “threads” that are not “silver” are “gold”. I could easily pass for several other ethnicities including Russian – or what Americans think Russians looks like anyway. Like America, Russia is a large diverse country. Also like America the politically powerful people are almost all white; therefore when an American thinks of a Russian they think of a Slavic looking white person. What if white Americans thought of a person of color when they thought of a Russian? Let’s explore. Continue reading Representative Democracy At Stake
