While we are all distracted with Trump’s tweets and Russiagate he and his minions are doing severe damage to our federal government that will be with us long after they have exited the scene. In his defense it may well be due to his ignorance. I’m an old baseball fan (some days I feel the operative word is old). I remember when Marge Schott owned the Cincinnati Reds. Famously she once wanted to fire all their scouts. In the bliss of her ignorance she declared, “All they do is sit around and watch ball games.” Allow me to expand on that. Continue reading Who Needs Scouts?
My problem continues to be not finding a story but deciding which not to cover. That is how bad the Trump administration is. Today is another catch up day where I want to cover several topics briefly. It is getting to the point that I am seriously considering making this a weekly feature. Continue reading Outrage Cleanup
As I’ve often stated the difficult part of writing this column is not finding material to write about; it is choosing a particular outrage. Trump himself is averaging multiple lies per day, (if I were a bookie I would set the over/under at 2,000 for his first year. If I were a gambler I’d bet over), he is abetted with a cast of characters that mimic and often amplify his lies. Add to that a Cabinet that is composed almost exclusively of foxes guarding the hen house or utterly unqualified people who bought their way in to pursue their own misguided agenda. Today I want to talk about one of the foxes. Let’s explore. Continue reading Just Another Fox
As much as Hurricane Harvey captivated both the attention of the nation and the “media oxygen” last week I expect it to largely fade from “watercooler conversation” and decline in news coverage by the time you read this article. The debt ceiling, avoiding a government shutdown, the repercussions of Trump’s DACA decision and possibly Hurricane Irma will all overshadow Harvey recovery aid. The negative impact on hundreds of thousands of lives is very real and will make for some news clips; however the greatest danger will remain largely uninvestigated by our government and uncovered by our news media. Let’s explore. Continue reading Harvey’s (Mostly Unspoken) Legacy
If the Ivy League keeps sending us presidents like George W. Bush (Yale) and Donald Trump (University of Pennsylvania) I don’t know how much longer people like me are almost universally going to accept it as America’s elite conference academically. It really isn’t fair to evaluate eight schools on the basis of two alums. All that being said the current occupant of the Oval Office is not very bright. Therefore today’s title reminding Trump that there is no other planet on which human life is sustainable and we can transport ourselves to. Earth is it. There is no Planet B; (where have we read that before?) With all that in mind let’s explore what happened in the Rose Garden Thursday afternoon. Continue reading You Can’t Exit Earth
